2015 Honda Accord

New for 2015

The 2015 Honda Accord sees no major changes this year, apart from some minor reshuffling of standard features.

A Familiar Face

What can we say about the Honda Accord that hasn’t already been said? Its mix of style, size, and feature-rich cabin has made it one of the best-selling family sedans for nearly 30 years. You simply don’t get to that level without doing a lot right—and the 2015 Accord simply furthers Honda’s reputation as makers of one of the finest midsize sedans around.

Powertrains and Performance

The 2015 Honda Accord is powered by a standard 2.4-liter inline four-cylinder engine that serves up 185 horsepower and 181 pound-feet of torque. Like numerous Accord models before it, the 2015 version features front-wheel drive for maximum fuel efficiency. Power is routed to the front wheels via a standard six-speed automatic transmission, with the exception of  EX-L models (more on trims later), which feature a continuously variable transmission (CVT).

If it’s a larger engine you seek, we recommend exploring the available 278-horsepower 252 pound-feet of torque 3.6-liter V6. This particular engine is backed by a more conventional (read: non-CVT) six-speed automatic transmission. The V6 engine is available for both sedan and two-door coupe models, with the coupe getting an available six-speed manual that purists are bound to enjoy.

Of course, it just wouldn’t be a Honda without exceptional fuel economy. Thankfully, both engines deliver some of the best numbers around. Accord models equipped with the 2.4-liter and CVT earn an EPA-estimated 31 mpg combined (27 city/36 highway),* while the manual Accord with 2.4-liter engine return 27 mpg combined (24 city/34 highway).*

Naturally, the V6 causes fuel economy numbers to drop a tad but not enough to deter customers seeking the smooth and prodigious power it provides. V6 Sedan models earn 26 mpg combined (21 city/34 highway),* while V6 coupe models return 25 mpg combined* when paired with an automatic transmission, and 22 mpg combined* with the available six-speed manual.

Features and Trims

In keeping with tradition, the 2015 Honda Accord is available as a midsize sedan and sporty two-door coupe. Starting MSRP is a rather attractive $22,105,** and there a number of different configurations and trims depending on body style and engine type. Four-cylinder sedans come in five trims: Sport, EX, EX-L, and EX-L with Navi. Move up to the larger V6 sedan and the Accord comes in three trims: EX-L, EX-L with Navi, and Touring. A hybrid version is also available which we will cover in a separate review.

Finally, the Accord coupe with the four-cylinder engine comes in LX-S, EX, EX-L and EX-L with Navi, while the V6-equipped version comes only in EX-L and EX-L with Navi trims.

Value is the name of the game here and the 2015 Honda Accord provides plenty. The only thing longer than the Accord’s storied history is its standard features list, which include 16-inch alloy wheels, dual zone automatic climate control, and cruise control. For added convenience, all Accord models feature full power accessories.

But wait, there’s more! Technophiles are sure to enjoy the Accord’s standard eight-inch infotainment display, Bluetooth® phone and audio connectivity, and rearview camera. And let’s not overlook the standard four-speaker sound system, complete with CD player, auxiliary port, and USB/iPod interface.

Of course, if the standard fare doesn’t interest you then you’re in luck! There is a veritable wealth of trims, packages, and options to choose from, such as navigation, leather seating and upholstery, and keyless ignition/entry. Whatever you choose, you can be sure there is a 2015 Accord to meets your needs.

Exterior/Interior

While some automobiles resort to ostentatious styling and superfluous flourishes, the 2015 Honda Accord takes a different path by sporting a subdued but handsome exterior. Opting for a more contemporary – dare we say elegant – look, the Accord’s soft lines and slight curves will help this popular sedan age with grace. Naturally, coupe models spice things up a little with a more forward-leaning stance, narrow roofline, and tapered proportions at the back.

Inside, the 2015 Accord is equally impressive. Chances are you’ve already driven an Accord at some point in your life, and stepping inside the latest version should make you feel right home. There is something downright familiar about the interior. That’s because Honda’s designers deserve a lot of credit for creating a cabin filled with so much comfort.

Seating is comfortable, with plenty of cushioning and support for both driver and passenger, and there is an abundance of head, leg, and shoulder room. The Accord also manages to be both cutting-edge and intuitive. The buttons on both the center console and steering wheel are easy to reach, and the surface materials never feel or appear cheaply made.

Safety

Safety features may not be the most exciting to talk about, but when it comes to keeping you and those you love safe, the 2015 Accord is more than up to the task. Every model comes with a comprehensive list of features, including antilock disc brakes, stability and traction control, active front head restraints, front seat side airbags, and side curtain airbags.

Honda has also taken the progressive step to include a rearview camera as standard across the board. Meanwhile, drivers seeking even more safety features have access to optional equipment such as blind-spot monitoring, lane-departure warning, and a forward-collision warning system.

Bottom Line

From its handsome frame to its feel-good familiarity, the 2015 Honda Accord is one of the most engaging midsize sedans on the market. The Accord is a mainstay, an icon that will no doubt continue to grace driveways and garages for decades to come—and for good reason.

The Accord is affordable, fun, and built to last. It’s truly the most comprehensive version to date. We struggle to understand how Honda can improve on this already stellar model in the decades to come. But until then, we can all at least live in the moment and enjoy the 2015 Honda Accord.
