Honda Accord Wins Car and Driver Magazine's '10Best Cars' Award for the 30th Time
Honda has broken records yet again by winning Car and Driver magazine’s "10Best Cars in America" award for the 30th time. The Honda Accord has been included in the 10Best lineup 30 times during the 32-year history of the award, which is much more than any other car.
The '10Best Cars in America' Award
According to Car and Driver magazine, the Honda Accord is the only high-volume car to appear on the "10Best Cars in America" list year after year. This prestigious award ranks automobiles according to a range of different criteria, including performance, efficiency, safety, how fun the car is to drive, and the car’s general design. Since 1983, Car and Driver has reliably identified the best cars and trucks of the year, giving drivers the crucial information they need to choose a solid, high-performing vehicle.
Jeff Conrad, the general manager and senior vice president of Honda Motor Company’s American Division, says the amazing success of the Honda Accord reflects the car’s advanced fuel efficiency, performance and safety credentials. “Do something special 30 times,” explains Conrad, “and you’ve accomplished something truly extraordinary.”
Honda has performed spectacularly well on the "10Best Cars in America" list over the last few decades, placing far more winners into the list than any other motor manufacturer during this time. The next best performing brands are Toyota, BMW, Mazda and Chevrolet, but none of these manufacturers comes close to matching Honda’s performance.
The Long History of the Honda Accord
The Honda Accord is one of America’s best-loved and longest-lived automobiles. The first generation of Honda Accords went on sale in the U.S. back in 1976. Production moved to the U.S. in 1982, when Honda started to manufacture the Accord in the company’s auto plant in Marysville, Ohio.
Since its introduction to the American market in the 1970s, the Honda Accord has grown dramatically in popularity. Total U.S. sales of the Accord have now reached more than 12.5 million units, of which 10.5 million units are made in the U.S. It’s the most popular car sold in America in 2015, according to new vehicle registration data published by IHS Automotive. In fact, the Accord has held this top spot every year since 2013.
The 2016 Honda Accord
The ninth generation of the Honda Accord was released in 2013. The 2016 Honda Accord builds on this base model, adding refinements to the design of the car. The chassis has been upgraded to give the car a more rigid body. Honda has also added oversized wheels and tires to selected models of the car. The overall impression is a design that is sportier and more sophisticated than previous models of the Accord.

The Honda Sensing suite of safety and assistive features is available as an option on all 2016 Honda Accord trims and is included as standard on the Touring trim. Other features available on the 2016 Honda Accord include remote engine start, rear seat heaters and rain-sensing wipers. Buyers can also choose to include sophisticated technology and entertainment features inside the car, such as the Apple CarPlay® and Android™ Auto systems. The 2016 Honda Accord is one of the first high-volume cars to offer these new entertainment systems.
In addition to all the new and exciting features, the 2016 Accord comes with all the reliability and performance you would expect from a Honda. Drivers can choose from a 2.4-liter inline four-cylinder engine as standard, or upgrade to a 3.5-liter V6 for extra power.
