Honda raises the bar with expected class-leading EPA fuel economy ratings and power
The Honda Accord Hybrid is getting an upgrade. When it arrives at Hall Honda Virginia Beach this summer, the 2017 Accord Hybrid will feature an all-new two-motor hybrid powertrain with the highest EPA fuel economy ratings of any midsize sedan and the most power. It's no wonder that John Mendel, Executive Vice President of the American Honda Motor Co., Inc., calls this "the ultimate Accord."
The Accord Hybrid's two-motor hybrid powertrain eliminates the need for a conventional mechanical transmission, smoothly transitioning between three different driving modes. In EV Mode, the system unsurprisingly operates solely using the electric propulsion motor and lithium ion battery pack to drive the front wheels during short strips under light loads. In Hybrid Drive, the electric motor drives the front wheels while the ultra-efficient 2.0-liter i-VTEC engine powers a second motor. Engine Drive connects the engine and propulsion motor together for a full-bodied driving experience.
Honda is expecting EPA fuel economy ratings of 49/47/48 (city/highway/combined),* while the system delivers a combined peak output of 212 horsepower. The result is what will be the most powerful and fuel-efficient midsize hybrid sedan in America -- even more impressive when you consider that this is the first model year to be judged under the U.S. EPA's new, more stringent ratings requirements.
But the new Accord Hybrid is defined by more than just its specifications. Drivers will also have the benefit of the latest technology Honda has to offer, including available Display Audio with Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™.
