Treadmill Tips

Even a treadmill lover can get bored with the monotony of the process. There comes a time where almost ever runner feels like they’re just like a gerbil on a wheel.

But the treadmill doesn’t have to be so boring. There are different routines you can run through while you’re on the treadmill that will keep your heart rate up and your mind busy. Hall Honda Virginia Beach recommends the following:

Try varying the incline during your run. Start off without any incline at all. Run for 10 minutes and increase your incline to 1 percent. Run for a minute and then drop it back down. Run for another minute, than increase the incline 2 percent. Then back down to zero. Keep doing that routine until you’ve raised the incline 5 percent. Finish the last 10 minutes of your routine without any incline at all.

You could also try doing a circuit routine with your treadmill run. Run for 10 minutes on the treadmill at a nice pace. Then stop the machine and do 10 or 20 push-ups on the ground. Then get back on the treadmill and run for another five minutes at a harder pace. Then stop, get off the machine, and do 30 ab crunches. Then run for another five minutes. Get off and do 20 more ab crunches. Run for another five minutes and then do another set of push-ups. The last 10 minutes of your routine should be a cool down run.

You can also try running to the rhythm of your music if you run with an MP3 player or iPod. Create a playlist with songs that will get you moving. While you’re running, match the tempo of the music with your speed. Start and end your run with slower-paced songs. Do this routine for 40 minutes.

If you’d rather watch TV while you run, try incorporating the show into your run. Start off with a warm up, as your show is just starting. At the first commercial, run at an increased speed until the show comes back on. When the show returns, slow back down. Keep repeating the process until the show is over.

These alternative workouts are sure to kick your treadmill blues and keep you entertained enough to get through the winter and bad weather.
