Fuel Up Like It’s 2002

Gas Prices Are Dropping and Are Expected to Drop Even Further
For the first time since 2002, the national gas price average has dropped below $1.80 per gallon and is expected to decline even further.
AAA spokesperson Robert Sinclair estimates that the national gas price average may drop as low as $1.30-$1.34 per gallon because of the “stay at home orders” along with an increase in oil production overseas by the two largest oil producing countries. Experts believe that in some states, gas prices may even drop below $1 per gallon.
For comparison, in 2019 the average price was $2.80 a gallon. Car owners who have become accustomed to spending between $45-$50 at each fill-up, can potentially save $20 or more per tank full.
To save even more, savvy drivers can check out a number of online resources including GasBuddy to find the cheapest gas prices in their area. Anybody remember when gas prices were $.36 per gallon? Try 1970.
There is no telling how long the lower fuel costs will last, but at the current rate, drivers may be able to save an average of $400 to $500 annually.
