2023 Honda HR-V

Overview

No car is perfect, but the 2023 Honda HR-V comes as close to perfection as possible. The subcompact SUV switches things up by riding on a newer and larger platform shared with the Civic. The end result is more room for everyone and their luggage, not to mention a new engine for more power and a new suspension setup for better ride quality. Trim choices for 2023 include the base LX, mid-level Sport, and top-tier EX-L. All trims come available with Honda’s Real Time AWD system, providing drivers with a measure of safety and confidence on slippery roads.

The Perfect Ride For…

The passionate pragmatist. The 2023 Honda HR-V, especially when equipped in its Sport trim, proves that sensible subcompact SUVs aren’t doomed to be as dull as dishwater. The Sport’s black 18-inch alloy wheels and other blacked-out trim features give it incredibly sporty vibes. In other trims, the HR-V exudes a surprisingly premium look and feel that other subcompact SUVs could and should aspire to. Convenient electrostatic reading lights let second-row passengers enjoy a good book during those long night drives. The second-row seats also fold down in a 60/40-split configuration, expanding the HR-V’s 24.4-cubic-foot cargo area even further.

Drive and Handling

Not only does the 2023 Honda HR-V ride on the Civic’s platform, but it also inherits the sedan’s 2.0-liter inline 4-cylinder engine. The end result is a healthy power bump to 158 horsepower and 138 pound-feet of torque. Power still flows through a continuously variable transmission, allowing the small CUV to achieve fairly impressive fuel economy numbers. Expect an EPA-estimated 28 mpg combined (26 mpg city/32 mpg highway) on 2WD models and 27 mpg combined (25 mpg city/30 mpg highway) on AWD models.*

The HR-V shows off its nimbleness on twisty roads thanks to an impressive suspension setup. MacPherson struts up front and a rear multilink setup helps give the SUV a light-footed feel without sacrificing ride quality. Front and rear stabilizer bars also help keep the HR-V settled in the curves while disc brakes all around provide ample stopping power.

Key Features

Refined Interior

If the interior of the 2023 HR-V seems a bit Civic-like, then it’s no accident. The dashboard shares many of the same elegant styling cues, including the detailed honeycomb insert and well-placed HVAC controls. Available leather-trimmed seats feature intricate contrasted stitching. The leather-wrapped steering wheel also receives the same treatment. Even the seats have features that help minimize fatigue on long drives and provide maximum comfort.

Exceptional Infotainment

The 2023 Honda HR-V also debuts with a host of appealing infotainment features, starting with an available 9-inch touchscreen display. A dedicated volume knob and buttons to the left of the display make it easier and more intuitive to use. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability let you extend your compatible smartphone to the display without messing with any cords or cables. Of course, you also get wireless phone charging.

Honda Sensing

The 2023 HR-V also comes with the latest in Honda’s premier safety and driver-assistive suite. These features include the Collision Mitigation Braking System, which provides audible and visual alerts if it detects an impending collision with a vehicle or pedestrian. The Traffic Sign Recognition System relays speed limits and other important signage back to the 7-inch Driver Information Interface.
